(Not on hiatus).

In light of some of the concerned emails I’ve been receiving, I thought it worth stating that all is very well with me. I’m not sick, or disenchanted, or uninspired — just a full-time final year university student with three big papers due in as many weeks.

I’m almost over the hill and will do my best to make it up to you with some extra goodies when I can sit down and blog again — probably over the next few days, after I finish my last paper. Wish me luck :).

(Trust me, I’d rather be blogging!)

Good luck with the exams! ;-)

Look forward to seeing you back when life is less hectic.

    2. 5/2/08

Wish you all the best to complete your exam.

    3. Always good to be reminded that bloggers have - and are entitled to have - life outside of blogging. Good luck. I am so glad I don’t need to go through exams anymore.

    4. I guess you can’t submit three guest papers, can you? Oh well, that’s life. We’ll be patient and hope you pass with flying colors.

    5. Good luck on the exams.. will see you back afterwards ;)

    7. I feel your pain Skellie. I am a University student as well. There is nothing worse than when all the work piles up out of nowhere.

Good luck on your papers. I look forward to your return to the blogging world!

    8. Good luck Skellie! I know how you feel. I’m still in awe that you’ve created such an amazing blog whilst holding down your studies as well.

    9. Good to hear you’re still around — best of luck with the papers! We’ll still be here when you’re done. :-)

Had no idea you were full-time at uni as well as doing all this great stuff. You have the material for starting a blog on successful time management!

    11. Glad to know you’re okay Skellie :)
Best of luck with your University papers, and even more so for your final results. Though if your posts here are anything to go by, I’m sure your examiners will be awed by your wonderful writing style!

    12. 5/2/08

Oh no, I’m reading blogs as a pause while I’m studying for my next week exams and I found you speaking of how busy you are…

    13. 5/2/08

Wonderful to hear! All the best with the end of your studies, and I look forward to hearing what you have to share whenever you’re able.

Skellie, this is strange, but when I saw the title “(Not on hiatus)” on my igoogle under Skelliewag, I went right to this post…

I was concerned about you, and talk about a title for a post that really got my attention! ;o)

Glad to hear all’s well, though!

Looking forward to great future posts!

    17. 5/2/08

Good luck, Skelliewag! I was getting worried that I’m not getting any advice any more!

Good luck with everything, Skellie. I managed to find Colis’ email via Twitter, so you can ignore the last three emails I sent you :)

    20. 5/2/08

I obviously hadn’t read your ‘about’ page before. I didn’t realise you were a student and Australian. Good luck :)

    22. 5/2/08

Hey Skellie, all the best. I know what it feels like. I started blogging whilst doing my Masters’ Degree and boy was that a mistake. Anyway, best wishes and lots of love (?!)

    23. 5/2/08

Good luck Skellie. £ papers in 3 weeks is a lot but you can do it.

In a way, it’s good to take a break from blogging, don’t you think so? :D

    30. Good luck!

    31. 5/9/08

Best of luck with the papers and exams. Sounds like you’ve had a lot of heavy cranial work going on.

      Blessings,

    32. Good luck with all that then. Just wanted to say thanks, as I took some inspiration from your e-book The Simple Web and have realised my own compilation of a series of posts called Planning With Kids Top 100 Tips. . Couldn’t work out how to put the cover in the post like you did, but I am thrilled to have out there. Thanks for the inspiration!

    33. I know how you feel, currently in the same position, now in my final week of this Uni year. Hope it all goes well for you.

      Cheers,
      Chris

Well, exam time is always the busiest time.Hope to hear the latest from you soon.

    41. 5/21/08

How is your finals coming along? Hope you did not stress yourself until you crack! Come back quick aite?

    42. I so totally sympathize with you, Skellie.

I’ve had to put my blog on a ‘holiday’ as well, because the demands of my off-line life have increased (which by the way, is a good thing!)

One ‘trick’ you might want to consider going forward is to create some content ahead of time when you know one of these periods is coming up, so that you can keep “feeding your audience” even while time poor. I had not been smart enough to plan for this eventuality, so I had to use a different tactic: I am sharing a list of my ‘Hall of Fame’ (my favourite Internet Authors), one per week. It doesn’t take me that long to write each weekly blurb (10 mins?), and it maintains some momentum in the blog.

Before I go, I also wanted to thank you for your idea on creating some graphical banners for some of your best content; I took some time and used Creative Commons images (with Derivs licenses) to do the same on my blog, and am very pleased with the results. One thing I still need to do, however is fix the layout of my blog. There is a *lot* of wasted space ‘above the fold’, which is just criminal. I am hoping with the knowledge I have of programming languages and CSS, that I will be able to customise the Wordpress template I am using and fine-tune it to my needs. If you know of an inexpensive web developer that would be willing to maybe either work for a heavily discounted rate at his own pace (long deadline); or that is willing to enter into a bartering arrangement (I do something for her, she does something for me), please do let me know.

Like all said, best of luck with your papers!
